Electrical Services: A Growing Field

Have you ever been asked what you want to be when you grow up? For some people, this answer comes easily, while others are less sure. Although exploring career options can be an exciting process, it can also be overwhelming.

If you’re not sure where to begin- start here! With a new apprentice electrician on the Butler Electric team, we thought this was the perfect time to discuss the perks of being an electrician.

It’s accessible. College isn’t for everyone. Luckily for any aspiring electricians, only a high school diploma is required for the job. This means that they can save time and money by going straight into an apprenticeship to learn the tricks of the trade.

You can gain hands-on experience. If you love a more hands-on approach to learning, this is the job for you! Apprentices are taken under the wing of an experienced electrician and are trained for anywhere from 4-5 years. The best part? You get paid while you learn.

It's a growing field. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are currently 669,900 electrician jobs in the United States. Since the invention of electricity, people have relied heavily on it, and this reliance on electricity is very unlikely to diminish. As a result, electricians are always in high demand. This demand is projected to increase by 9% in the next 10 years.

It's a good salary. Along with money electricians save from opting out of college, they also receive a very comfortable salary. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for electricians in 2017 was $54,110. That’s over $10,000 more than the median annual of $43,490 for all occupations.

Butler Electric is proud of our team of electricians and apprentices. Let us know how we can serve you!
